        Doyle was knighted in 1902 for his defense of the British cause in the Boer War. After the deaths of a series of family members around the end of World War I, Doyle became an ardent Spiritualist and wrote several books on the subject. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle died at age 71 of a heart attack at home in Sussex on 7 July 1930.
