The trail leads to a ransomed pearl necklace, and another killing, then to the beautiful young wife of elderly millionaire Grayle, a crooked psychic, a beating by cops in Bay City, escape from an insane asylum, and discovery of still another murder. Moose shows up at Marlowe's apartment, followed by Velma, who admits several killings; Moose steps out from hiding and Velma shoots him and flees.
