Looney Tunes Characters
Bosko, 1929-1933
Bosko was the first successful Looney Tunes character, starring in 39 b&w cartoon shorts by Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising from 1929 to 1933. Harman & Ising left Warner's cartoon factory in 1933, taking with them rights and even cels of the character, but made only a handful of Bosko shorts at M.G.M before moving on to other characters. Bosko was essentially a happy American Negro, based on racial stereotypes of the vaudeville circuit era, and easily may offend modern tastes (thus the DVDs are labeled 'Uncensored'). |
