Michael  Moore
          | short profile |
"I just decided to make a movie. I had no training, no film school, but I had been to a lot of movies."
— Michael Moore
"Now more than ever, Michael’s appetite for the truth is crucial."
— Harvey Weinstein in 2017
The very controversial documentary film "Fahrenheit 9/11" won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2004, and then got even more free publicity when Disney Studios told subsidiary Miramax Films not to distribute the movie, for fear of interference in Bush's re-election. A deal was made and Miramax bought the film outright, then signed with independents Lionsgate & I.F.C. for distribution.
After the record-setting opening of "Fahrenheit 9/11" in June 2004, Moore made the cover of Time Magazine – see two online articles from that July 12th issue: "The World According To Michael" by Richard Corliss & others, and "The Moore Method" sidebar. And he also was listed as one of the Time Magazine 100 (April 2005).
Not one to avoid the spotlight, Moore revealed in early 2007 that the I.R.S. was going to audit his income tax records because of his trip to Cuba to film parts of "Sicko" – a revelation nicely timed for the opening of that film.
Moore's sequel project called "Fahrenheit 9/11½" seems to be abandoned.
Moore's next project was described as "a look at the global financial crisis and the U.S. economy during the transition between the incoming Obama Administration and the outgoing Bush Administration", which was released as "Capitalism: A Love Story" in October 2009.
Moore's "Where To Invade Next" was released to theaters in December 2015 and on DVD/Blu-ray in May 2016.
"Fahrenheit 11/9" was announced at the May 2017 Cannes Festival as being sold for distribution by The Weinstein Company and that foreign rights were available.

aka "Captain Mike Across America" [Dog Eat Dog/Weinstein Sept 2008]
  | Gadfly filmmaker Michael Moore toured the U.S. to increase voter registration among post-high school youth ('slackers') for the important 2004 Presidential election, and he took his camera crew with him. This film is a record of that ultimately-failed effort (Dubya won), with the omission of death threats and attempts on Moore's life during the tour. In a radical marketing move, Moore made the entire film available online for free, immediate download for three weeks in September & October (after signup; available in U.S. & Canada only), as well as the standard DVD edition • Co-produced, written, directed & narrated by Michael Moore; includes performances or appearances by Roseanne Barr, Joan Baez, Steve Earle, Tom Morello (of Rage Against The Machine band), Viggo Mortensen, R.E.M. band, and Eddie Vedder (of Pearl Jam band)

"Capitalism: A Love Story"
documentary [Dog Eat Dog/Weinstein Oct 2009]
  | Back in 2008, Michael Moore's next film was described as being about 'the wonders of capitalism'. However, fate provided him with the 'G.O.P. Meltdown', the still-rolling collapse of the U.S. and worldwide economy. The American Dream is looking like a nightmare for more and more ordinary people whose lives have been turned upside down, as families pay the price each day with their jobs, their homes and their savings – the disastrous impact of unregulated corporate dominance and scared politicians seeking re-election over mystified & angry citizens across America.
Co-produced, written & directed by & starring Michael Moore; interviewees include Cong. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, Cong. Marcy Kaptur of Ohio, Wallace Shawn & Elizabeth Warren, with archive footage of Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Martin Luther King, Barack Obama, Sarah Palin, Ronald Reagan & Franklin Delano Roosevelt; won 2 awards at the Venice Film Festival

"Michael Moore In TrumpLand" [streaming Oct 2016]
  | When the show was banned from the first town they tried, Mike moved on to an even bigger community of Trump supporters in the ironically-named Clinton County, Ohio; the one-time one-man performance was filmed at the Murphy Theatre in Wilmington, Ohio and released for streaming on iTunes and Amazon Instant Video in October 2016; movie became #1 on iTunes in November 2016 because of doctored videos on rightwing websites; Moore went on Fox to explain that the video is not pro-Trump and he didn't want viewers' five dollars under false pretenses

"The takeover of the environmental movement by capitalism is now complete." ~~~ filmmaker Jeff Gibbs
  | This film is a wake-up call, a harsh look at how the environmental movement has lost the battle to stop climate change through well-meaning but disastrous choices - because we are following leaders who have taken us down the wrong road by selling out the green movement to wealthy interests and corporate America • CAVEAT: While the intention of the film is a pro-environment warning, the methods used include false information and even 'downright lies' – see annotated reviews at 'Get Energy Smart NOW!' blogsite Exec produced by gadfly filmmaker Michael Moore; co-produced by Valorie Gibbs, Christopher Henze, David Paxson, Ozzie Zehner; co-produced, written & directed by Jeff Gibbs; featuring Al Gore, Jr., Denis Hayes (founder of Earth Day), activist Van Jones, Robert F.
