La  Carrera  Panamericana  of Mexico
The La Carrera Panamericana 7-day, 2000-mile amateur road race across Mexico was originally held in 1950-54 to celebrate completion of Mexico's portion of the Pan-American Highway, but was stopped because of the high cost and because too many participants got killed. The race was revived in 1988 and is restricted to cars built before 1965. At least four professional documentary films have been made – of the 1991, 1995, 2007, and 2013 races.
