The character of Wickie the Viking, always smarter than the adults in his village, was created by Swedish children's author Runer Jonsson [1916-2006]; the book series of seven novels was published from 1963 thru 1993. The Japanese cartoon series of 78 episodes was produced in 1974 and broadcast in Europe and later in Australia; the re-dubbed American TV series of 26 episodes was syndicated in 1974. The German-language box-office hit live-action feature film was released in 2009, and a sequel in 2011.
