"Smokin' rockets!" — line often uttered by Cadet Happy
History of 'Space Patrol'
           Created and produced by Mike Moser, the "Space Patrol" stories followed the 30th Century adventures of Commander Buzz Corry of the United Planets Space Patrol and his young oddly-named sidekick Cadet Happy as they battled nefarious interplanetary villains and their diabolical schemes. Cmdr. Corry and his allies were aided by such nifty gadgets as 'miniature space-o-phones' and 'atomolights'. The special effects used in the half-hour TV episodes had to be performed in real time; for example, pistols that shot invisible rays necessitated pre-positioning a small explosive charge on the wall; an actor would point the prop ray gun at that spot, whereupon a special effects worker would throw a detonation switch. These effects could not have been superimposed on film since the series was broadcast live. One 1953 30-minute episode was the subject of the first U.S. experimental 3D-TV broadcast on April 29 in Los Angeles on A.B.C. affiliate KECA-TV.
"Space Patrol"  on  Radio
The radio version of "Space Patrol" ran for 129 weekly episodes from October 4th, 1952 to March 19th, 1955 with the same cast used on both the radio & TV shows;
writers, scripts, and directors were often reused between the radio & TV productions; the radio broadcasts were not limited by studio sets and the radio stories
became more expansive in scope than the television programs. Only 117 of the original broadcasts survive; 101 are on the O.T.R. website.
