Robert Nozick was born in Brooklyn, New York and attended Columbia College. He received his PhD from Princeton University, writing his disseration on theories of rational decision. His work spanned a number of areas, including: political philosophy (epistemology, personal identity, free will, and the foundations of ethics); reflections on what is important in life; and theories of rational decision and rational belief. Professor Nozick was past president of the American Philosophical Association (Eastern Division), a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy, a Senior Fellow in the Society of Fellows at Harvard University, and the Pellegrino University Professor at Harvard.
