“I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature.”
— Thomas Jefferson [1743-1826]
“Church and state are, and must remain, separate.”
— Ronald Reagan [1911-2004]
“I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof', thus building a wall of separation between church and state.”
— Thomas Jefferson [1743-1826]
{in the 'Letter to the Danbury Baptist Association', 1 January 1802}
“Every new and successful example, therefore, of a perfect separation between the ecclesiastical and civil matters, is of importance;
and I have no doubt that every new example will succeed, as every past one has done, in showing that religion and Government will both exist
in greater purity the less they are mixed together.”
— James Madison [1751-1836] {in 'Letter to Edward Livingston', 10 July 1822}
“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent,
but the one most responsive to change.”
— Charles Darwin [1809-82]
“Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution.”
— Theodosius Dobzansky [1900-75], in 1973
“Science takes things apart to see how they work. Religion puts things together to see what they mean.”
— Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, U.K.
“Patriotism may be the last refuge of scoundrels, but religion is assuredly the first.”
— Rick Cass of Florida
“One can't prove that God doesn't exist. But science makes God unnecessary.”
— Stephen W. Hawking [1942-2018]

Interesting how fundamentalist Xians love their fictional court victories (as above)
and keep losing their battles against separation of church and state in the real world (as below).
Trial  At  Dover, PA
The Dover Area [Pennsylvania] School District Board of Education passed a resolution on 18 October 2004 requiring teachers of biology to read a statement aloud to students when covering evolution: "Students will be made aware of the gaps/problems in Darwin's theory and [made aware] of other theories of evolution including, but not limited to, intelligent design". The American Civil Liberties Union filed suit on 14 December 2004 on behalf of eleven parents from the Dover school district. The trial began on 26 September 2005 and lasted 40 days; Judge John Edward Jones III delivered his decision on December 20, finding for the plaintiffs; the school board was ordered to repay plaintiff's court costs (the $1M sum was actually about half) and recommended that several individuals on the defense side be investigated for perjury.

  | "The Five Thousand Year Leap: 28 Great Ideas That Changed The World" [1980] by anti-Communist flake W. Cleon Skousen [1913-2006] This idiocy is blasphemy to the U.S. Constitution, or maybe just treasonous, since the premise is that the United States is a Christian (ONLY) nation, and all non-Christians are the enemy (or is it that all opposition to such fundamentalist/fascist screed is anti-Christian?). And the new Foreword by TV rabble-rouser Glenn Beck defines the market that it is intended for. — Sentient beings will not buy this book! |
