— Aesop [620-564 B.C.E.]
Synopsis
           The first extensive collection of Aesop in Latin was translated by Phaedrus of Augustus in the First Century C.E. – in iambic trimeters. Romulus wrote an influential prose version of Phaedrus in the Tenth Century that contains 83 fables and was commonly used as a text for teaching Latin.
           The Renaissance included a revival in literary Latin; many collections of fables appeared, often with content other than from Aesop. "The History and Fables of Aesop", published in 1484 by William Caxton, has seen several modern translations to English. Lorenzo Bevilaqua published two Latin volumes of 197 fables in 1495 and 1499. The majority of the hundred fables in Gabriele Faerno's "Centum Fabulae" [Italy 1564] are Aesop's, but there are also many folk tales. The collection of 294 fables by Hieronymus Osius titled "Fabulae Aesopi Carmine Elegiaco Redditae" [Germany 1564] also contains many folk tales. Pantaleon Weiss, known as Pantaleon Candidus, published "Centum et Quinquaginta Fabulae" [Austria 1604] which contains 152 fables in Latin verse. Anthony Alsop's Latin verse "Fabularum Aesopicarum Delectus" [Oxford 1698] contains 237 fables, each of which is prefaced by the original text in Greek or Hebrew or Arabic.
           Gerhard von Minden published "Äsop", an adaptation into Middle Low German verse of 125 Romulus fables, around 1370. Heinrich Steinhöwel published "Esopus" [circa 1476] which contained both Latin versions and German translations of 156 fables collected from Romulus, Avianus, and other sources; the book also included a translation of the Greek life of Aesop (1448), and 205 woodcuts. "The Fables of Jean de La Fontaine", issued in 12 volumes from 1668 to 1694, are classics of French literature; the books contain 239 fables, collected at first from Aesop, Babrius and Phaedrus, with the later books derived from a wider range of sources; the original edition was illustrated by François Chauveau.
           Sir Roger L'Estrange published the English-language translation "Fables of Aesop and Other Eminent Mythologists" in 1692. H. Clarke published the bilingual Latin reader "Select Fables of Aesop: With An English Translation" of 102 fables in 1787. Standard modern translations include George Fyler Townsend's "Aesop's Fables" [1867] with 313 fables {available as free Kindle ebook below} and the 1912 edition of over 280 fables illustrated by Arthur Rackham {available as 99¢ Kindle ebook below}.
           Most recently, the "Aesop's Complete Fables" published by Penguin in 1998 may be definitive: Olivia & Robert Temple translated all 358 known fables for adult readers (the fables are described as 'unbowdlerized').
The  Fables  { Sixth Century B.C.E. }
The tales attributed to Aesop [620-564 B.C.E.] were handed down by oral storytellers for several hundred years, which obscures whether Aesop was a real person and which tales are authentic members of the 'canon'. Demetrius of Phalerum produced a Greek-language collection of Aesop's fables in the Fourth Century BCE; although it was very popular for 1,200 years, no copies survive. The first extensive collection of Aesop in Latin was translated by Phaedrus of Augustus in the First Century C.E.
William Caxton published "The History and Fables of Aesop" in 1484, which has seen several modern translations to English. Sir Roger L'Estrange published the first English-language translation, "Fables of Aesop and Other Eminent Mythologists", in 1692. Most recently, the "Aesop's Complete Fables" published by Penguin in 1998 may be definitive: Olivia & Robert Temple translated all 358 known fables for adult readers (the fables are described as 'unbowdlerized').

A Second-Century papyrus manuscript attributed to Babrius was discovered in 1842; the truncated manuscript contains 130 fables of Aesop in Greek verse. These fables are all in one metre and in very good style, humorous and pointed; some are original. Other sources report 160 fables in the full Babrius work. The first extensive collection of Aesop in Latin was translated by Phaedrus of Augustus in early First Century C.E.; these fables are in lively and terse Latin iambic trimeters, and not only amuse and teach but also satirise social and political life in Rome.

"Aesop's Fables" cartoon shorts [1921-1933]
  | Have not found a true/complete/distinct history of the "Aesop's Fables" silent and sound cartoon shorts series; 445 titles are listed at IMDb as produced by Famous Studios, Inc. from 1920 to 1929, and 270 titles are listed at IMDb as produced by Van Beuren Studios from 1928-1936. Only the earliest films in this series were loose adaptations of Aesop stories; later cartoons usually revolved around cats, mice, and disgruntled Farmer Al Falfa or cartoon character Cubby the Bear. Each short concluded with a 'moral' that usually had nothing to do with the cartoon story. "Aesop & Son" animated shorts
  | "Aesop & Son" was a series of short color cartoon comedy segments on the "Rocky & Bullwinkle" TV show [1960-64] from Jay Ward Productions; the "Aesop & Son" cartoon shorts were repackaged for syndication in 1976. The typical structure consists of Aesop attempting to teach a lesson to his son using a fable; after hearing the story, the son subverts the fable's moral with a pun. Aesop was voiced by actor Charlie Ruggles and the son, Junior, and other characters by voice actor Daws Butler.
