Bernard 'Bernie' Sanders was born on 8 September 1941 in Brooklyn, New York; he served as Mayor of Burlington, Vermont 1981-1989, as Vermont's At-Large Congressman 1991‑2006, and was sworn in as U.S. Senator in 2007; he announced his campaign for the Democratic Party's nomination for President on 26 May 2015.
Bernie launched his campaign for President in 2020 in February 2019.
