Chinese literature's equivalent to “The Lord of The Rings” is finally being translated into English sixty years after original publication in Hong Kong. Publication in Mainland China was forbidden for political reasons, but many copies were smuggled or simply carried in, so that billionaire Jack Ma of Hangzhou, for example, began studying martial arts after reading the Trilogy. The novels have usually been printed in three sets of four volumes, and recent loosening in China has allowed publication there. The new English translations of the Trilogy will be published as 12 books starting in 2018, each with a different translator.
