L.M.  {Lucy Maud}  Montgomery
             | short profile |              |
"I cannot remember the time when I was not writing, or when I did not mean to be an author."
"There are many different happinesses, and we never know them all at once, because that would be perfect happiness,
and that is something the gods do not allow us mortals."
"We must have ideals and try to live up to them, even if we never quite succeed. Life would be a sorry business without them.
With them it's grand and great."
"I'm always sorry when pleasant things end. Something still pleasanter may come after, but you can never be sure."
"It's been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will."
— Lucy Maud Montgomery
During her lifetime, Lucy Maud Montgomery published 22 novels, over 500 short stories, 700 articles, an autobiography, and a book of poetry, and left behind a series of journals going back 50 years. She was invested in the Order of the British Empire in 1935.
8¢ Canadian commemorative postage stamp issued in her honor on 15 May 1975.
