Native New Mexican historian & poet Nasario García was born in Bernalillo, but grew up in the small village of Ojo del Padre (Guadalupe, Sandoval County) in the Río Puerco Valley, north and west of Albuquerque and southeast of Chaco Canyon. Considered a leading folklorist in New Mexico, Dr. García has worked for over thirty years to preserve the Hispanic culture and language of northern New Mexico, and has published over two dozen books in Spanish and in English (and in both). He has received numerous literary awards and is the recipient of the first‑ever Lifetime Achievement Award from the Historical Society of New Mexico. He currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
