Ronald Reagan
[1911-2004]   •   U.S. President #40, 1981-1989

You could say that Ronald Reagan had three distinct careers (although there is some overlap):
movie & TV star, Army officer, and politician. This page covers all three.

Ronald Reagan is your hero?
You are obviously mis-informed.

  • Reagan lied when he said he was commander of the First Motion Picture Unit
    — he was a Captain and his job was F.M.P.U.'s adjutant.
  • Reagan lied when he bragged that he always slept in his personal bed during World War II
    — he attended Officer School in San Francisco in 1942.
  • California Gov. Ronald Reagan signed a bill legalizing abortion in 1967.
  • President Reagan raised federal taxes eleven times.
  • President Reagan stated that “Church and state are, and must remain, separate.”

  • The twelve years of the Reagan-Bush administration quadrupled the U.S. National Debt.
    The National Debt in 1980 was ONE TRILLION dollars, which included the entire VietNam War;
    the National Debt in 1992 had increased to FOUR TRILLION dollars.

    U.S. Army during World War II
    It is interesting that Ronald Reagan – after becoming President of the United States – needed to lie about his past, to hype his role during World War II. First, Ronald Reagan often said that he never slept in any bed except his own (meaning that he was accorded great privilege, and lived at his residence in Beverly Hills and drove to work). Patent falsehood, since he received officer training in San Francisco. Second, Ronald Reagan said that he was commander at F.M.P.U. in Culver City; Lieutenant Reagan was the Adjutant (a desk job); the commanders at F.M.P.U. were a series of 'bird' colonels: Roy M. Jones, {somebody named} McDuffie, Owen Crump & William Keighley.

    Thirdly, Ronald Reagan actually claimed credit late in life for 'the discovery of Marilyn Monroe', a falsehood. What happened was that the photographers seemed to have nothing to do one Summer day in 1945, so then-Capt. Reagan ordered them to go photograph young women, such as at the beach in swimsuits, with the intention of sending the pictures to Yank Magazine or Stars & Stripes to help 'build the morale' of soldiers & sailors in uniform. Photographer David Conover found Norma Jean Baker Dougherty at an aircraft plant in Van Nuys, realized her potential (and simply fell in love with the girl), took several rolls of color & b&w photos, and helped her get signed with a modeling agency.
