"The genre-bending qualities that previously condemned comics to the bonfire are now widely celebrated
by academics and critics as uniquely apt for making sense of an uncertain world."
— Harry Backlund in The Paris Review, 13 February 2014

"Any book worth banning is a book worth reading." — Isaac Asimov [1920-92]

"The most affecting and successful narrative ever done about the Holocaust." — The Wall Street Journal

"When I am happy I don't feel like working. But when something occurs that is unsettling then I have to work it out
through the drawings and comics." — Art Spiegelman, 2013 interview

Synopsis

           Days after
The book's epigraph is a quote from Adolf Hitler: "The Jews are undoubtedly a race, but they are not human."

History of The Books
Pantheon collected the last five chapters in 1991 in a second volume subtitled "And Here My Troubles Began". In 1992, the two-volume work became the first (and to date only) graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize (the Special Award in Letters)
In January 2022, the McMinn County School Board in Tennessee voted to ban Art Spiegelman's acclaimed graphic novel "Maus", which depicts his father's experiences as a holocaust survivor; within days, "Maus" reached the top position on Amazon’s best-seller list and then "The Complete Maus" quickly sold out on Amazon.
