Bandelier  National  Monument
[est. 1916] in north central New Mexico
Protects over 33,000 acres of rugged, beautiful canyon and mesa country as well as evidence of a human presence here going back more than 11,000 years, with petroglyphs, standing masonry walls, and dwellings carved into the soft rock cliffs paying tribute to the early days of a culture that still survives in the surrounding communities.

in Sonora (Old Mexico), Arizona & New Mexico Territories, then from 1892 to 1903 in Ecuador, Bolivia & Peru; Adolph died while conducting
long-dreamt-of archival research in Sevilla, Spain in 1914 at age 73.
