Louis Dearborn L'Amour was born 22 March 1908 in Jamestown, North Dakota. He wrote & published ninety novels,
twenty-seven short-story collections, two works of nonfiction, a memoir, and a volume of poetry before his death
on 10 June 1988 at the age of 80. He is the only author in history to receive both the Presidential Medal of Freedom,
and the Congressional Gold Medal in honor of his life's work.
