City of Rio Communities [est. 1 July 2013]
[same 87002 ZIP code as Belén, New Mexico]
Several land development companies began selling lots across the river from Belén, New Mexico in the 1960s, collectively named the Rio Communities.
Rapid growth slowed at the end of the century, and essentually halted due to the G.O.P. Economic Meltdown of 2008. A few energized locals built a demand
for self-rule (versus lousy services under Valencia County), and a special election in January 2013 won passage for cityhood.
{Only 1,063 voters of 5,000 residents participated, but the 672 to 391 count came out 63 percent for versus 37 percent against incorporation.}
The official population of Rio Communities is 5,476 (4/2016).
City Hall is now at 360 Rio Communities Blvd.; office hours are 9am-1pm Tuesday & Wednesday & Thursday

Since I live in Rio Communities, New Mexico and shop across the river in Belén and up the road in Los Lunas, this page got way too big because of all the detail
that I kept adding (I moved here in 2005). So when it came time in February 2020 to split the page so that it would not take forever to load, I chose to make a separate
