Amazon's A9.com engine [new 4/2004]
      The A9.com company was started October 2003 by Amazon, and the engine was launched as part of the Amazon site in April 2004. The website is no longer available to individuals to use as a websearch site; the engine software can be licensed for use on your commercial website.

About.com
       About (formerly The Mining Company) operates thru Guides, some of whom manage hundreds of Topics. Find each Topic that you want to be listed on, then click on the Guide's name/link at the top, then click on Contact The Guide, and request a listing for your website or webpage. About.com was bought by the New York Times in 2005.

      Among Alexa's services is an archive of websites, including ones that no longer exist. The process is free! Just put in the URL for your main/index/home PAGE and their spider will crawl your entire website – currently predicted as 'within the next few days'.

A.O.L.
       AOL – America OnLine – has a Submit URL page giving instructions for adding via ODP; not necessary if you have already submitted to ODP (on Earl's homepage). In 2005, A.O.L. signed a contract for services from FAST of Norway.

      The Ah-ha search engine allowed free inclusion into the Dogpile/- InfoSpace meta-search system and FastSearch; since the site was acquired by Enhance Interactive in Dec 2003, inclusion is only thru PPC signup.

Eurekster: launched Jan 2004
      Launched in January 2004, Eurekster is billed as 'the first internet search engine powered by social networks'. A company or other group can sign on individually (free) and connect with each other, and search results are weighted by what others in the group have visited. The original database included FAST/ATW & Google data, but the site has been revised so that their operation is based on topical 'swickis' that users construct and then get their visitors to use. Swicki types include free Standard, free Video, and for-fee Pro.

      Individual page URLs can be added to Excite only thru the Overture click-thru service (you pay minimum 5¢ for every visitor, deducted from your deposit account); keyword PPC inclusion is handled thru InfoSpace.

FindInfo
      FindInfo is a megasearch engine. The free add URL is posted 'within 7 business days'. Websites submitted via the free page are displayed as an option at the bottom of the first search return page.

FindWhat search engine
      In June 2003, leading pay-per-click operation FindWhat announced a merger with Espotting Media (of Europe). Partners who use the FindWhat database include the Excite, C|net/Search, WebCrawler, NBCi, Metacrawler, Dogpile & Go2net search engines. In turn, FindWhat signed a contract with FAST of Norway in January 2005.

Froogle
      The Froogle – a play on 'frugal' – site was launched by Google in December 2002 as a beta version; the directory contains direct links to products at the online seller, in categories or by search. The listing is free but restricted to online, non-affiliate sales only. Froogle was promoted to a 'tab' on Google's main page in early 2004.
