author Enid Blyton
Enid Blyton was born in East Dulwich, London, in August 1897. She was a hugely popular writer, publishing over 600 books for children and is the fourth most-translated author behind Agatha Christie, Jules Verne, and William Shakespeare. The Famous Five book series was launched in 1942, followed by twenty further novels (and eight short stories) and it remains the best-selling children’s book series of all time, with over 100 million copies sold. Enid was married twice and had two daughters, Gillian and Imogen. Enid died in November 1968 at age 71.
