J.R.R. Tolkien [1892–1973], beloved throughout the world as the creator of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings",
was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford University, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College
until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition,
but even as he studied those classics he was creating a set of his own.

"The Last Ringbearer" [Russia 1999]
There is an unauthorized and unofficial and (technically) unpublished sequel to the Ring Trilogy that has become very popular in certain fandom circles.
"The Last Ringbearer" was written by Russian paleontologist Kirill Yeskov in the spirit of alternative history: this is the Mordorian version of the tale.
Editions in Russian (Cyrillic) exist, with various translations not found on Amazon (except an out-of-print Spanish edition). Included here are links for
several versions in .PDF or other format, some of which seem to require installing reader software such as BCool.

Age of the Hobbits video release 2012  "Age of The Hobbits" aka "Clash of The Empires" [The Asylum Dec 2012]
The folks at low-budget The Asylum like to rip-off whatever blockbuster is due for release, and make a straight-to-video picture, figuring that calling it a 'mockumentary' makes everything legal. Their newest cheapie was scheduled for sale in stores just 3 days before release of "The Hobbit I"; the legal departments of Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, M.G.M., and producer Saul Zaentz sent a formal objection letter in August 2012 and filed suit in November. The story appears to be original – dragon-riding cannibal Java creatures enslave the Hobbits – but that is no excuse.

J.R.R.  Tolkien  [1892–1973]

J.R.R. Tolkien [1892-1973] Page at Spirit of America Bookstore

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born 3 January 1892 in Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa. During an extended visit with his mother and brother to England, his banker father Arthur died of fever in Africa. The family was stranded and without income, and settled among family in Birmingham. His mother died at age 34 in 1904 of acute diabetes (biosynthetic insulin was not yet invented) and her two sons became wards of a priest at Birmingham Oratory (church). Ronald entered Exeter College, Oxford in 1911 and graduated in 1915 with 'first class honours'.
Ronald met Edith Mary Bratt in 1908; they frequented local teashops and soon decided that they were in love. Ronald's Catholic guardian was horrified at his interest in a Protestant, and forbade further contact. On his 21st birthday, Ronald wrote Edith a letter asking her to marry him; Edith reluctantly agreed to convert to Catholicism, and they were formally engaged in 1913 and married at Warwick in March 1916.
Ronald signed up for the Army, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, trained for 11 months, was allowed to marry, and then sent to France in June 1916. Lt. Tolkien saw combat at the Somme, but suffered trench foot and eventually trench fever, at which point he was sent home to England. While in Staffordshire, he began writing ("The Book of Lost Tales"); still ill, he was promoted to Lieutenant.
Ronald's first civilian job was at the Oxford English Dictionary; he was hired in 1920 at the University of Leeds as a Reader in English Language. He returned to Oxford in 1925 as Rawlinson & Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Pembroke College; during this time he wrote "The Hobbit" and the first two volumes of "The Lord of The Rings". "The Hobbit" was published to wide acclaim in September 1937. Ronald moved to Merton College, Oxford in 1945 where he remained until retirement in 1959. He completed "The Lord of The Rings" in 1948; after struggles with publishers, the three volumes were published in July 1954, November 1954, and October 1955; publication in the United States was in 1963.
Ronald was increasingly unhappy with the sudden popularity of his books with the 1960s counter-culture movement ('hippies'), but completely pleased with the general attention; they moved to Bournemouth, where Edith delighted in the social life. Edith Tolkien died at the age of 82 in 1971; Ronald moved back to Merton College, Oxford and spent time with his grandchildren.
J.R.R. Tolkien died on 2 September 1973 at the age of 81 and was buried in the same grave as his beloved wife of over 50 years.
