"The greatest gift [that] you ever give is your honest self."

"Little by little we human beings are confronted with situations that give us more and more clues that we are not perfect."

"Often when you think [that] you're at the end of something, you're at the beginning of something else."

Fred Rogers worked on several TV shows at NBC in New York City. He then began working as a puppeteer on "The Children's Corner" at Pittsburgh public television station WQED-TV, working his way up to producer.
The long-term educational children's television series created & hosted by Fred Rogers originated in 1961 as "MisteRogers" on C.B.C. Television in Canada; the 337 b&w episodes were 15 minutes each, and ran until 1967; the series was re-branded in 1966 as "Misterogers' Neighborhood"; it later moved to the regional Eastern Educational Network (EEN) which included a name change to "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood".
The half-hour U.S. national show debuted on 19 February 1968 on N.E.T. and later on its successor P.B.S., lasting for 895 episodes until 31 August 2001; the first 130 shows were b&w; Episode #131 was the first color episode and also the start of 4-digit episode numbers, as #1001.
In May 1969, Nixon was trying to cut funding for PBS; Fred Rogers delivered an emotional plea to a Senate Subcommittee.
