The  Pink  Panther
The Pink Panther character began as part of the opening & closing credits for the 1963 feature film "The Pink Panther" starring David Niven and Peter Sellers.
The cartoon panther is silent, in the tradition of "Tom & Jerry" et al; the name derives from the first movie's MacGuffin, a very large and very pink diamond jewel. There were eight feature films made by Blake Edwards, six of which starred Peter Sellers; the one-off sequel "Inspector Clouseau" [1968] was directed by Bud Yorkin and starred Alan Arkin; the two-film reboot in 2007 & 2009 starred Steve Martin. The DePatie-Freleng animation studio produced 124 Pink Panther cartoon shorts between December 1964 and February 1980, several TV specials, and a children's TV series; a new animated feature film is in development at M.G.M. Animation.

Star  Trek
The 'Star Trek' media franchise began in 1966 as a weekly television show on the NBC-TV network; it ran
for three seasons (79 episodes) until it was canceled because of poor ratings. Reruns of the series proved
to be wildly successful in syndication during the 1970s, which persuaded owner Paramount to expand the
franchise; feature films and spinoff TV series followed.
