mystery-solving magician Bazarada
Sax Rohmer [1883-1959] published the non-fiction "The Romance of Sorcery" in 1914, and magician Harry Houdini [1874-1926] wrote to Rohmer in praise of the book;
they became friends. Some years after Houdini's death, Rohmer wrote six short tales about a mystery-solving magician character named Bazarada, who is obviously
based on Houdini; the stories were printed in Collier's Magazine in 1937 & 1938 and then published in U.K. as "Salute To Bazarada and Other Stories" in 1939,
with a limited USA edition in 1971. The 1971 edition by Bookfinger appears to be a re-titled re-publication of all six stories with the original dedication:
"To my friend / HARRY HOUDINI / Stone walls do not a prison make / Nor iron bars a cage".

Mandrake The Magician
comic strip 1934-2013, movie serial 1939, radio 1940-1942, TV pilot 1954, TV movie 1979
There was a real-life Mandrake the Magician, Leon Mandrake. He had been performing for ten years before the comic strip Mandrake made its debut,
and they both had a similar appearance (black top hat and cape, pencil moustache). However, Leon and comic writer Lee Falk had never met each other and
found the whole situation a coincidence. But they did agree to promote each other's work occasionally.
