  • 1892 Sept 6: Iowa farmer John Froelich [1849-1933] sold his first tractor; he and blacksmith Will Mann invented the first gasoline-powered tractor by cobbling together parts from other machines, including a steam-powered engine to bring his invention to life, and then created the Waterloo Gasoline Traction Engine Company.

    "The Little Red Tractor"  [est. 1991]
    'The Little Red Tractor' began as a series of children's books by Colin Reeder in 1991 and then as very popular animated video releases (sold 300,000 tapes) in 1993; video
    distributor Contender wanted to expand to television distribution, but producer-director Peter Tye had already made arrangements with Keith Littler's Little Entertainment Group
    for a series of stop-motion animation shorts for the CBeebies Channel, which were broadcast from 2003-2008.

    "Little  Grey  Fergie:  The  Greatest  Tractor  In  The  World"
    Little Grey Fergie is a classic TE20 Massey Ferguson tractor, circa 1946-56 who starred in a series of children's books that became enormously popular in Norway for over 10 years under
    the title 'De Kleine Grijze Tractor'. At least four feature-length family films have been made in Norway since 2011. In 2013, the folks at Hungary-based Giving Tales set up a website and YouTube Channel and released 'A Week With Fergie", seven short near-silent live action films for children from 2-3 years and up. Of course, there are also toys & games & iTunes songs, but the surprise treat is that Fergie and a few actors tour British local fairs in the Summer and put on a show and allow kids to interact with Fergie in person! • official website

    'Little Grey Fergie' books in English  "Little Grey Fergie" books in English [2010+] by Morten Myklebust,
    Illustrated by Linda Marie Vikaune, Translated by Judy Kitson

    For over 15 years these stories have made this little grey tractor a favorite character
    to the children of Norway; the first of 9 books in English about Fergie and his friends
    was published in 2010, but none are found on Amazon USA or Amazon UK (2017).

    Several feature-length 'De Kleine Grijze Tractor' {aka 'Gråtass'} family movies were made in Norway circa 2011 & 2016, evidenced by poster and DVD cover images;
    since none are available via Amazon USA, we include here some of those images with basic details only.
