Library of The World's Best Literature book series edited by Charles Dudley Warner  "Library of The World's Best Literature, Ancient and Modern" [1896-97]
American essayist and novelist Charles Dudley Warner [1829-1900] was a neighbor and friend of Mark Twain – they co-authored the novel "The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today" in 1873. Warner's major work was editing the "Library of The World's Best Literature, Ancient and Modern", originally published in 30 volumes in 1896-97; contents were alphabetical by author. There were also a 31-volume Teachers Edition and a Memorial Edition of 46 volumes, both published in 1902. The digitized versions on Internet Archive are incomplete; a partial set for Kindle was uploaded by Amazon in 2011.

This work in four volumes by editor & newspaper publisher Edwin A. Grozier [1859-1924] was published by Harper & Bros. in 1920, and neatly lists books of the
XVIIIth & XIXth Centuries, both known & unknown to this webmaster (there are only -- books that were published after 1900); Grozier was assisted by Charles E.L. Wingate
and Charles Henry Lincoln, and Grozier's wife condensed four of the books. A single-volume edition was published in 1931 & 1940.
