The  Barnes  Museum
Eccentric Dr. Albert Barnes [1872-1951] bequeathed his eclectic art collection – containing masterworks by
Cézanne, El Greco, Gauguin, Goya, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, Renoir, Utrillo, Van Gogh & others, and currently
worth $25-35 billion – to the failing Afro-American college Lincoln University. Economic concerns and terms of
the will erupted in controversy in the 1990s, with plans afoot to relocate the collection to Philadelphia's Museum
District; the new museum opened in May 2012, lovely but still controversial.
