Movie producers have been filming in New Mexico for a century, especially Westerns. Starting in 2003, state and local governments promoted
film & media production here thru tax incentives, funding help, and elimination of 'red tape'. Then the new Republican governor cut the program back in 2011,
and jobs and tax revenues quickly saw major reductions. The impact of New Mexico's film industry grew from $8 million in 2002 to $657 million in fiscal 2008,
and New Mexico's I.A.T.S.E. Local 480 grew from 79 members in 1998 to 1200 members in mid-2008.
