The British storybooks about 'Thomas the Tank Engine' by Rev. Wilbert Vere Awdry [1911-97] were a surprise success and the merchandise
now includes 42 storybooks, dozens of educational books, British and American television series, feature films & videos, electric trains
in OO gauge and larger, other toys & games of all sorts, furniture, clothing, and 'in person' visits by Thomas to local tourist railroads.
It was a beautiful day on the Island of Sodor . . .

"Thomas & Friends" TV series [1984-2021]
British children's TV series was originally titled "Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends", renamed "Thomas & Friends" in 2002; the series has broadcast 419 episodes from 1984 to 2015. The show has been broadcast on ABC4Kids in Australia, on FOUR in New Zealand, and on T.V.O. in Canada. In the U.S., segments aired as part of "Shining Time Station" from 1989 to 1995; as "Mr. Conductor's Thomas Tales" in 1996; and as "Storytime With Thomas" on Fox Family from 1999 to 2001. "Thomas & Friends" premiered on P.B.S. Kids in 2004 (distributed by Connecticut Public Television from 2004 to 2007 and by WNET-TV 2008-2017). The American broadcast of series/season 21 in 2018 was moved to Viacom's Nick Jr. channel.
The series was replaced by the "Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go" TV series in September 2021.
